Mike Pearson & Melissa Sanborn have always shared an interest in wine. On a cold, winter drive along the Clearwater River, they took a side path home and came across an overgrown yet picturesque vineyard for sale along the Potlatch River...the rest is history. They have since focused their zeal into establishing Colter's Creek Winery and Vineyards.
In the winter of 2007, we bought the deserted vineyard. Surprisingly, most of the vines survived the years of neglect due to hearty root systems and sufficient annual rainfall. Over the next 2 years, we re-trellised and retrained the vines and added a new drip-irrigation system. In the spring of 2009, we planted 3 more acres, comprised of Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel, Tempranillo, Gewurtraminer, Grenache, Viognier, as well as test plots of Sangiovese and Nebbiolo. Nearly 25 years after its birth, the vineyard is now healthy and thriving.
