Information
This scenic recreational area has brought vacationers to its graceful mountainsides for over sixty years. During the 1930s, railroad executive Averell Harriman asked Austrian Count Felix Schaffgotsch to find a site in the West "of the same character as the Swiss and Austrian Alps". Soon after, America's first ski resort was born. Sun Valley would go on to pioneer the world's first chairlift and become Idaho's best-known resort. Wherever you stay, don't miss the historic photos of celebrity visitors from the 1930s to the present in the hallways in the Sun Valley Lodge.
