Information
The Idaho National Laboratory began when the nation's first nuclear power plant, the Experimental Breeder Reactor 1 was located here n 1949. EBR-1 operated from 1951 through 1963 and nearby Arco became the first city to be lit by nuclear power. In 1966, it was dedicated as a National Historic Landmark and is open each summer for tours. Today, nuclear power research continues at the Idaho National Laboratory.
