Originally know as "Point of Sand", Sandpoint is located on the northwest edge of spectacular Lake Pend Oreille. Settled in the 1880s, Sandpoint became an important logging, milling and rail center. Today it is a thriving resort community with lively visual and performing arts, shopping and nightlife. Summers allow for hiking,golfing, boating, swimming, fishing and mountain biking. Winter activities include skiing at Schweitzer Mountain, nordic skiing and snowmobiling.
