Information

Idaho's largest public observatory is at Bruneau Dunes State Park, which features the tallest single-structured sand dune in North America surrounded by sagebrush desert and grassy flats. Visitors to the observatory watch a short orientation program and then gaze at the heavens through one of the observatory's telescopes. The popular observatory is open on Friday and Saturday evenings. Seating is limited and guests are accommodated on a first-come, first-served basis. The Bruneau Dunes visitor center offers information on birds of prey, insects, fossils, wildlife and the dunes. Bird watching, fishing and climbing the other popular pastimes at the state park.

Hours: Park open year round. Observatory opens for the 2009 season on March 13th and is open Friday and Saturday evenings through October 17th.

Fees: Admission to Park is $4 per vehicle and Observatory viewing fee is $3 per person. Children under 6 years of are free. Observatory open Friday and Saturday evenings March 13th through October 17th.
