Information
Discovered in 1948 by two hunters, the Spencer Opal Mine is an open-pit mine and the only place in North America where opals are plentiful enough to mine commercially. Opals range from white, pink, yellow, blue, and common. Look for opals in the mini-mine or inquire about traveling to the actual open pit mine site and digging there. Both rental equipment and wash water are available. The store offers opal jewelry, lapidary supplies and convenience-store items. An RV park and campground is also available.
