Information
Emmett, the largest town in Gem County, is referred to by the residents as "Idaho's Hometown" and "The Valley of Plenty". Emmett offers so much for its residents and visitors to enjoy. Outdoor sports and activities abound as well as quiet peaceful settings. Historically, fur trappers entered the area along the Payette River and its tributaries as early as 1818. Settlement in the area began in the 1860's and the town started at the site of a ferry crossing. With its abundance of fruit orchards, Emmett hosts a week-long Cherry Festival the 2nd full week in June to kick off the summer months. Cherry-spitting and pie eating contests, a quilt show, Fun-Run, Great Cherry Bake-off and more. It is a free event with no charge to enter and free entertainment all day with a nightly concert, free too! The Harvest Festival Street Fair happens in October celebrating the end-of-the-crop season with arts and crafts, food, entertainment and lots of free kids activities. Emmett, located just 30 miles NW of Boise, is a step back to a simpler time and life. Four seasons of fun, mountains, the Payette River, Black Canyon Reservoir are just a few of the attractions beckoning you to Experience Emmett!
