Information
Snow transforms and softens the rugged Craters of the Moon landscape and a winter visit offers excellent opportunities for solitude in pristine and unusual surroundings. The 7-mile loop drive is closed after the first snowfall and is groomed for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing with no fees charged. The gentle grades make it ideal for beginning and intermediate skiers. Cinder cones provide a challenge for advanced skiers willing to climb a little bit to ski down hills, or a moderate hike for snowshoers. Ranger-led Winter Snowshoe Adventures are offered on Saturdays and Snow School every Tuesday through Friday in January and February. Call for reservations at(208)527-1335.
